Love.

Last weekend we threw my parents the best surprise ever for their 30th wedding anniversary.  We all got together and organized a complete re-enactment of their wedding and reception, all right under their noses!

I won’t go into detail too much since Joan already did a splendid job on her blog.  Same with the pics, she got some great ones so click here to take a look at them on her site.  The only thing I would like to add is that it is INCREDIBLE that the 6 of us girls were able to get together and plan this thing with as little fighting as possible.  Bravo!

What is really on my mind since then though isn’t the ceremony or the party or the fact that we pulled it off.  What really got to me through this whole thing was the look on my dads face when he spoke his vows to my mother once again.

Joan talks about the beauty of the sun rising over the mountains not comparing to this moment and that almost captures it.  For me, it was like seeing love without conscious thought – in its purest, most raw form, the way God created it to be.

Although everyone rather tactfully skirted the issue this past weekend (thank you!) its no secret that this weekend I was supposed to be married.  However, 6 months ago my ex and I split and the wedding was off.

In a cupboard in my bathroom I have 2 ring boxes with 4 rings in them.  Once in a while I take them out and look at them, and then put them away.  The other day, I took them out and looked at them and realized that without the same love my parents have, they are just small circlets of metal sitting in boxes.  Nothing more.

I am so glad that we got to witness the commitment my parents have made to one another. There is no greater beauty then seeing two people who have stood the test of time, who can then look at each other soul to soul and say that yes, they would do it again.
