What an awesome city.
As you all know, this week I had the opportunity to attend a business meeting in the grand city of Cincinnati.  The meeting went well – Thank you God! – but I didnt expect to fall in love with that place.  Seriously, I want to go there again on a vacation or something!
Since we got there in the evening on Monday (10 hours on the road, oi) we decided to walk around a little and grab something to eat.  2 minutes out of the truck we were accosted by homeless people but once they saw what we offered them (V8 juice) they decided to try elsewhere.  Well actually, 1 homeless guy accepted and drank his V8 but he complained the whole time 🙂
The next morning we wandered the city some more.  Cincinatti is such an amazing mix of wealth and poverty.  The downtown core is very posh – very.  I’m talking Macy’s, Saks on 5th, large LCD television screens on the sides of the buildings that play movies and security patrol on the roads.
Then you walk 1 block and no word of a lie, you have cages on storefronts, broken glass in the street, graffitti everywhere, and windows covered in newspaper.  Being so close to that area and not daring to cross the street was something else.  I have never seen such a clear line of "that is where you belong, this is where I belong".  It made me so sad to see it, and yet I found the the reality of it almost breathtaking.
Does that make any sense?  Can poverty also be beautiful?
Anyway, I also found out that we were only 5 minutes from the Kentucky border so once business was out of the way I insisted we drive to Kentucky and eat fried chicken.  We did, and it was disgusting 🙂
In other news my cat somehow got kitty litter in her eye while I was away.  Desiree took the poor cat to the vet where they examined the eye, placed a cone on her head and gave Dee this perscription cream for the cats eye to be applied 3 times a day until done.  I came home to a $170 vet bill, but honestly what I keep thinking about is how impressed I am that Dee took such good care of my pet.
Other then that, its back home and business as usual 🙂  Next week is Chicago!!  I’ll make sure I do pictures this time…

  1. we went on a missions trip to toronto a few years ago.  our ‘tour guides’ took us to areas with 5 million dollar homes, and then drove a block away and showed us the same contrast that you saw.  i see the beauty in it from an artistic perspective, but i’m overwhelmed by the tragedy of it all.   especially when the reality is that we are on the rich side, and there are so many people on the other side.
glad you’re home safe.  i’ll see you in 9 days!
