The Weekend Report.

Last weekend Greg and I did nothing.  We sat around watching television, reading books and going for long walks.

Okay, thats a lie – we never do nothing 😀

Last weekend Greg and I went to Michigan, USA along with his parents and kids for their annual family vacation to Frankenmuth. Despite having a cold annoying enough to make me want to cut my nose off, it was a fabulous trip. We left very early Saturday morning and got back to London around 7pm Sunday night, but in those 2 days we did so much! Frankenmuth is the cutest little town and reminds me of Niagara On The Lake in a lot of ways. We did a lot of walking, visiting all kinds of little shops. I got to see how fudge was made and then sampled it fresh off the bakers knife, bought jarlsburgh and sampled chocolate covered cheese from the german cheese shop, and visited a rather good sized store dedicated solely to popcorn – a store that my sister Joan would have no doubt loved. There were a lot of other shops that had their own sense of "special-ness", definitely too many to list here and I’m looking forward to going back again. The best part though, was the Bronners Christmas Village.  Its a store that is massive – a whole big block store dedicated to Christmas, and in the Christian way. It was amazing – Greg and I spent a whole hour speed walking through the store just trying to take everything in. Of course, he’s been there a million times but it was my first time and I just had to see it all 🙂  In the end we bought our Christmas cards and some ornaments.

There was also a restaurant in particular that deserves mentioning, but I dont know what it was called because everyone kept referring to it as the "chicken place".  The "chicken place" was in fact a rather posh restaurant with segregated diningrooms and the staff all wore tasteful pioneer gowns with hair caps and aprons. Dinner was served family style and you didnt have to ask for anything. As usual, I ordered milk, and also as usual, I drank it fairly quickly but everytime I got distracted another full glass of cold milk would materialize out of no where and be sitting beside my plate!  Endless milk!!  I never dreamed that kind of restaurant existed! 😀

They started the meal off by serving platters of breads with jams, pate, butter and cheese spreads, and then brought 3 different kinds of salad and placed them on the table.  After that came chicken soup, and a refill on the bread platters.  After that came the main course, which was incredible roasted chicken, stuffing, butternut squash and mashed potatoes.  For dessert there were ice cream sundays. It was seriously the most efficient, seamless experience I have ever had in a restaurant, and it was so authentic. Did I mention the endless milk??  3 glasses people… I was almost milk-logged…almost, not quite 🙂

So, here I am – about 3lbs heavier and just a little more travelled then I was last week. This coming weekend should be low-key – all we have on the go is bowling, hiking, bbqing, visiting, church and plans to go for pizza.

Ah yes… very low key 😉
