With 4 months and 16 days left to go until the wedding, I think its safe to say that most of my blogs will probably be about the ups and downs of being a bride-to-be. I said "most", because this isnt one of them.
The weekend started well enough on Friday with Gregs kids and I baking cakes for his moms birthday on Saturday. We had fun even though Faith had the flu, and within an hour and a half I had 2 beautiful chocolate cakes cooling on the counter top. The next morning, I laid out icing pens, bowls of white icing for the base, sprinkles, candy and cocoa powder and let the kids decorate their cakes for their grandma. Once we got to their grandmas house, we then had to sample the cakes. 1 hour later, we left the kids to the care of their grandparents and headed over to Gregs aunts house – the aunt who runs a very successful wedding cake business. The next 2 hours were spent pouring over catalogues and looking at sample cakes in the showroom.
The cakes were beautiful and there were so many to choose from but from the moment I saw the 3 teired, squared and unsymetrical cake I knew it was the one for us. The final product will be coated in cream coloured icing with an icing sheet draped around it and a bouquet of spring flowers on top and cascading down the sides – all in icing. Its really a gorgeous cake and I think we were both happy with the decision. Soon after, Gregs parents arrived with the kids and we all sat down to a nice dinner which was pizza (of course) and for dessert…. you guessed it, cake 🙂  I had 2 different kinds, one was an angel food cake with fresh strawberries and kiwis, and the other was a butterscotch pound cake with buttercream frosting.  We were absolutely stuffed afterwards and decided to finish out our night with lattes and a wander around Chapters.
On Sunday, both of us came down with the flu, and it hit us super hard. I’ll spare you the details of the throwing up, muscle aches and dizziness but in all the hours that I was sleeping and fighting it, I had so many nightmares of cake. I would fight through the nightmares of cake upon cake until I would wake up and run into the bathroom for another round of nausea.  Even now, I cant really think about it too much.
I think I’ll avoid cake for a while… maybe even letting the next time I eat it be at the wedding 🙂

I use food to show love, I make things because it helps me connect to my inner self, and I use social media because it's how I connect to other like-minded people. My life happens between the kitchen, the craft room and the gardens. This blog is where I keep track, work it out, and share my ideas. Feel free to share your thoughts back with me!
