Bragging Rights.

I have an amazing fiance. Okay, I bet he’s blushing right now… 🙂

In 11 weeks, Greg and I will be married and I will be leaving Niagara and moving to London so we can begin our life together.  This engagement has been a whirlwind of activity and now that we’re nearing the actual day I have more time to sit back and marvel at this amazing man God has given to me. I’m proud of him. He is loyal, steadfast, strong and very loving, and when we’re together I feel safe, loved and completely content.

A few things about Greg that I love are that he’s a strong Christian and loves serving the Lord by being involved in various outreach programs. Sometimes I tease him that he does too much, but of course, there’s no such thing as long as he remembers to eat and sleep once in a while 🙂 He’s also ambitious in the sense that he doesnt think anythings impossible, but humble in the sense that he’ll probably crawl under his desk in embarrasment over this blog 😀

Greg started his own Christian baseball league about 7 (8?) years ago called The Samson League. It was an opportunity for him to combine his 2 passions, Christian outreach and baseball and each year he’s able to add more teams to it from the London area as its popularity grows. As of this year, he has 20 teams, a waiting list for next year and has had to lease diamonds at 2 different baseball complexes to accomodate all the teams. I’m constantly impressed by his attention to the details; He hires actual umpires for the games, keeps a meticulous schedule, has a rule book that makes my eyes glaze over in 2 seconds flat and at the end of the season he does awards, trophys and mid winter he hosts an annual coaches meeting to discuss the coming season.

About a month and a half ago, Greg told me that he was thinking of doing a little evening reception to kick off the season. Maybe something at one of the churches… maybe a speaker, maybe some cookies and coffee… well, maybe I should have known that my humble fiance would have something up his sleeve 😀 And now that all the pieces are in place, I cant stop telling people how proud I am of him…

The Samson League Pre-Season Event will be held on April 26th at 7pm, and the church hosting the event for this year is Oakridge Presbyterian in London, On. The speaker is Tony Fernandes, a former BlueJay and 5x Golden Glove winner. Tony is a Christian and will be speaking to the coaches, teams, family and friends about his faith and his career. Afterwards will be a light reception and a chance to get an autograph or a photograph or two, and as it turns out – the chaplain for the BlueJays is in London that day and has officially agreed to come and do the introduction for the evening.

Greg will tell you that he hasnt done much, and he’ll focus on the fact that so many others are doing a lot more work than he is… Oakridge for hosting the actual event in their church, Tony for doing the actual speaking, Impressions for printing the tickets… but I’m proud of him 🙂  I think it’ll be a great night of fellowship and outreach and I can’t wait to see it all happen.

Tickets are $10 each. I know its a bit of driving, but if we all carpool from Niagara then we can leave at 4:30pm and be home by 11:30pm…  Hope some of you can come to it 😀

  1. Greg can do ALL THAT????  No wonder you call him "Captain Wonderful" whenever you talk about him (which is all the time, seriously, you NEVER shut up about him)!  I mean, I knew he could wrestle alligators and fly stealth bombers, but YOU HAVE BEEN LEAVING OUT DETAILS!
(ha ha… was that nice enough?)
