A Cake Story

Lately I’ve been really into combining my love of baking and cooking with my love of art and I’m having a great time with it! I made Desirees birthday cake (a few blogs down) and that was my first time working with mediums such as fondant and chocolate molding paste. I then found a website that teaches you how to make decorations out of chocolate and melted candy and from there I’ve done nothing but fantasize about the next cake I would make and decorate.
A printing company that Greg has done a lot of work with offered to do Greg and I’s wedding invitations for free… a sort of professional gift from the company. They also printed the tickets for Gregs pre-season event for his baseball league so when Greg asked me to bake them something as a thank you I happily agreed. Then it struck me – I could make a CAKE!!
To make a decorated cake it takes me 3 days, so far anyway. I may be able to do it quicker the better I get at it, but it takes one day to make the fondant, then I have to bake the cake and let it cool completely, and then I have to make the ornaments and finally put it all together. If I was more efficient I could do it in a third of the time but I have a lot of other obligations so 3 days it is 🙂  Last night I put it together and decided to photograph my progress so that you guys could see why I love it so much; to go from plain and ordinary with just a few simple tricks, it just amazes me!
The cake will be going to the print company on Monday. I really hope they love it 🙂

I use food to show love, I make things because it helps me connect to my inner self, and I use social media because it's how I connect to other like-minded people. My life happens between the kitchen, the craft room and the gardens. This blog is where I keep track, work it out, and share my ideas. Feel free to share your thoughts back with me!
