It’s a nice day, go play outside.

… such was the most common phrase of my youth. Mom was big on that, no matter the season, and since we lived out in the country there was no reason for her to be concerned about her many offspring.  Most of my childhood memories are of me and my sisters playing outdoors. Everything from "fog monster" to the time Andre (the boy next door) and I got married beside the wood shed with my sister Joan acting as the officiator.

I’m telling you this, because my husband thinks I’m from outer space. Tonight, while I was making dinner he was standing in the kitchen talking to me and some how the conversation got on to funny names. We made fun of a few we’ve heard, and then Greg says, "what about Dick Van Dyke"? I laughed and said, "Can you imagine if a person had such a name!" Apparently, that IS a real persons name… a famous person to top it all off.

Greg couldnt stop staring at me as if I’d grown a second head and when I finally convinced him that I didnt know who that was and that I WASNT joking, he started to ramble off a list of shows and movies that this Dick guy has been in. Still, I was clueless – believe it or not, I havent seen any of those shows or movies. I didnt grow up in front of a tv! So then Greg goes to the computer and finds a photo of this guy… still, no recognition. I truly have never heard of this Dick Van Dyke guy.

Needing to get dinner in the oven, I finished our conversation by saying, "look, I’m sure I’m not the only person on the planet whose never heard of some old dead guy!", whereupon Greg gave a strangled cry and yelled, "he’s NOT DEAD!!" and ran from the room. I guess he couldnt take any more of my ignorance 😛

Anyway, that was still fresh in my mind so I wanted to blog it. Its good for a laugh 😀

Other than that, today was my first day of school. This week I’m just attending for 4 days, 4 hours a day and then I have 2 weeks at home to do an assignment. In January I begin full time but until then it should be pretty easy. This upgrade stuff is good for me, I was really starting to feel rusty from my old job. By the time the course finishes in March I should be all up to speed and back to my usual, aggressive self 😀

Some other stuff that I’ve been up too… I’m organizing a cookie exchange for the women in my church and it should be fun – instead of it being JUST a cookie exchange, there will be a light brunch, hot cider and a demonstration of how to make a Christmas centerpiece for your holiday table. Its going to be so great! I’m also throwing Dee’s baby shower this weekend and I think that will be fun too, I have some really unique ideas for it.

I’ll try to keep more up to date with my blog 😀 Ciao!

I use food to show love, I make things because it helps me connect to my inner self, and I use social media because it's how I connect to other like-minded people. My life happens between the kitchen, the craft room and the gardens. This blog is where I keep track, work it out, and share my ideas. Feel free to share your thoughts back with me!

  1. you’re hilarious. dick vandyke is quite possibly one of the most famous entertainers in the world, and we both grew up outside. he’s just never been on the cooking channel, and THAT’S why you don’t know who he is. regardless, i laughed out loud at your story. i’m sure greg had no idea he’d ever be interested in your personality once he’d married you. ha ha.
