Here’s a super short tutorial for making your own microwave popcorn, without all the fat and chemicals. If you hate microwaves, maybe this isn’t for you, but if you are maybe even a little intrigued… read on!
It’s easy. All you need is popcorn kernels, a brown paper bag and a measuring cup. Place 1/4 cup (level, not heaping) into the bottom of the paper bag. Fold the top over two or three times, press the crease to keep it closed. Do not add anything, no oil, nothing.
Lay the bag down in the microwave, folded side facing UP. Here, you may need to experiment a little because no two microwaves cook the same, but on mine I ignore the popcorn button, and press cook for 1:40. I find that this exact time, one minute and forty seconds, is the perfect amount of time to produce a bag full of fluffy popcorn. The trick is to stop the microwave as soon as you hear 2 or 3 seconds go by without a pop. After this, it will burn.
I add in my salt and butter separately, depends who I’m popping it for. It makes a nice, big, personal sized bowl for less than 200 calories (but who’s counting) and around here, we call that lunch :).
